S.W.O.T. Analysis Mural Fest 2023

By researching and analyzing the Mural Fest annual event, I identified the organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Through this work, I increased the non-profit organization’s overall public engagement through social media platforms by familiarizing the organization with what their public responds to. I presented the information as opportunities gained through-small scale events such as the Artist Paint and Sip Night, the T-shirt March Bracket on Instagram and Meet The Artist Instagram reels.

Strengths

  • Allowing the artists take the creative lead when it comes to the murals andthe way they express themselves in social media posts.
  • Offering an art walk to community members to explore previous murals and see what this program has to offer.
  • Creating merchandise using past
  • murals to further promote the event.
  • Consistency across website and social media posts that have the South Salt Lake Mural Fest logo (paint splotches).
  • Videos on the website send a strong message and capture the feeling of mural fest.

Weaknesses

  • Unorganized social media layout (leads to lack of interest or engagement)
  • A feed that is aethetically pleasing holds the retention of users for longer and is easier for viewers to navigate and understand.
  • Getting the merchandise out there into the community and having more options such as stickers, REUSABLE straws, or hats etc. make it apparent on the website that you have merchandise and you update it.

Opportunities

  • Visual marketing through the app “Later” to plan posts out a week in advance and decide on layout.
  • Increase engagment with new and familiar mural festival goers by sponsoring a paint and sip night atPainting with a twist in murray
  • Create a stronger relationship with new artists before mural fest and sharing their voice with the community through one on one interviews/Instagram reels

Threats

  • Favoring past artists too much discourages new people from applying.
  • New and old artists who have participated in the past events may have a bad taste about the current messaging on your instagram, (declaring favorites).
  • Art movements such as independent/up and coming art studios commissioning graffiti artists to paint on their walls, possibly attracting more public social media attention
